The PLP has offered its condolences to the family of Louis Somner, saying “we share in the sorrow of all who knew and served alongside Mr. Somner and extend our prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones.”

A PLP spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party joins our unions, supporters of the Bermuda Labour Movement and family in mourning the passing of a Labour stalwart Mr. Louis Somner.

“As a life member of the PLP, a trade unionist and former organizer of the Bermuda Industrial Union, he was a lifelong champion for workers’ rights.

“He served with honor and distinction on the Human Rights Commission from 2012-2015 where he not only fought for the rights of Bermudian workers but for migrant workers who faced abuse and intolerable working conditions.

“We share in the sorrow of all who knew and served alongside Mr. Somner and extend our prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones.”
