Keri Ebright Dedicates Effort To SOAR

January 24, 2019

A recent participant in the Bermuda Triangle Challenge dedicated her efforts “in memory of Connie Furtado and in honour of those who SOAR: Survivors Of Abuse and Rape.”

Keri Ebright said, “The Bermuda Triangle Challenge is over – my legs feel it. I was grateful to be able to complete the full marathon challenge for the second year in memory of Connie Furtado and in honour of those who SOAR: Survivors Of Abuse and Rape.

“When I ran the three races, I pinned on pictures of Connie and a sign that said “SOAR”. On that sign I had handwritten names of others who have been hurt by assault and abuse.”

“Because my story was in the news a day before the challenge kicked off, there were many along the course who noticed the pictures and the names who thanked me and cheered me on. When I was tired and felt like quitting, this encouragement along the course was a boost of energy which lifted my spirits.

“I appreciate you – the people of Bermuda – who supported me. It’s not so much about me, but the cause: remembering Connie and supporting survivors. I’ve returned home where there is snow on the ground, but I’m remembering my warm greeting in Bermuda.

“I will encourage anyone who reads this – if you have been hurt with this pain and are holding it in, please reach out. Too often we bury and suppress our trauma out of shame, or fear, or because we feel no one cares. We do care. Asking for help is a great show of strength, not weakness.”
