BHS To Host Parent Workshop On January 8

January 7, 2019

Bermuda High School [BHS] will be hosting a Parent Workshop tomorrow [Jan 8] at 5.30pm in the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

A spokesperson said, “BHS is pleased to invite all parents / guardians to a talk tomorrow evening [Jan 8] with Sheryl Hawkins from Life Synergy for Youth. Ms Hawkins has been at BHS for the past two days, talking to students during THINK [True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind] Day workshops.

What is Life Synergy?

“Life Synergy facilitators travel to schools all over North America & internationally to work with students in grades 4 thru 12. Their programs address issues including bullying, body image, suicide, rumours, gossip, drama and much more. These programs go past the surface and deal with the reality of what is going on in today’s school environment and the family dynamics that play a role in students’ lives. This speaks to the community at large and empowers people to make changes to improve the lives of others.

“The consequences of a person’s actions are explored both on the positive and negative side. Most students state that this program was “Life Changing” and staff have never experience something so, “Thought Provoking” in their careers. The staff are noticing significant changes in students actions and behaviours and the school culture.

Topics discussed with students included:

  • The power of your words
  • The importance of always telling the truth
  • Rumour, gossip, drama
  • The impact of media
  • Violent video games
  • On-line responsibilities
  • Cyber-bullying
  • Inappropriate pictures

“During the parent presentation, Ms. Hawkins will share these topics and also some of the online issues that students face, bullying and ways to support them to remain safe.

“Presentation will take place on Tuesday, January 8th from 5:30pm in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. All are welcome and this is a free presentation. Call 295-6153 for more information.”
