George Duckett Memorial Rugby Set For Today

The Bermuda Police Rugby Football Club are hosting the 46th Annual George Duckett Memorial Rugby Tournament at Police Field in Prospect this afternoon [Jan 12].

George Duckett was a former Commissioner of Police who was assassinated in 1972. Mr. Duckett was a larger than life Commissioner who had a commanding presence and stood at 6’5” tall and was well known as an ardent rugby fan.

In 1973, the Bermuda Police Rugby Section commenced an annual memorial game which is at present the longest running memorial game in Bermuda.

Serving Officers, former colleagues, and ‘Faded Blues’ [former police rugby players] and rugby fans from across the Island continue to show their respect by attending this BPS sporting tradition.

The schedule of games is as follows:

  • 12:30pm – Women’s BPRFC 2nd Team vs The Rest
  • 1:15pm – Men’s BPRFC Second XV vs BRFU Vice President’s XV
  • 2:45pm – Women’s BPRFC 1st Team vs The Rest
  • 3:30pm – Men’s BPRFC First XV vs BRFU President’s XV
