Detectives are investigating a reported aggravated burglary that occurred at Pompano Beach Club in Southampton early Sunday morning [Jan 20], according to police.

A police spokesperson said, “Detectives are currently conducting inquiries into a reported aggravated burglary that occurred at Pompano Beach Club in Southampton early Sunday morning [January 20th].

“It appears that an intruder – described as an approximately 6 foot tall black male in his early to mid-20s wearing a dark coloured hooded top – gained entry into a room on the premises between 3:15am and 3:20am Sunday.

“The burglar escaped with a quantity of U.S. cash after waking the visiting American couple staying in the room and demanding money, while brandishing a blunt object.

“The visitors involved – a 75-year-old man and his 73-year-old wife – were not hurt.

“Witnesses or any members of the public with information regarding this incident are encouraged to call the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1744.”

I suppose an elaborate security system means a bit of an increase to the daily hotel room rate , hope the folks are okay and the culprit caught.

  2. question says:

    This is outrageous.

  3. question says:

BTW, the Police said: “The burglar escaped with…”

He isn’t a burglar, he is a robber. This was not burglary, this was robbery. There is a difference.

I hope the culprit is caught, beaten and has his fingers cut off.
But as usual, the court will give him a slap on the wrist and say bad boy.
Try to break into my house and see what waits for you.
This is just what Bermuda needs at the beginning of trourist season.

THANK YOU TO THE ROBBER FOR BEING SO THOUGHTFUL OF THE RESIDENCE OF BERMUDA.

Why such a barbaric comment, it’s sad that this has happened but there are some places in this world were tourist are being kidnapped and killed.
Bermuda is not exempt from the evils of this world, and a handful off @$$#0£€$ does not reflect the true essence of our People

  9. Rebecca Richards says:

I’m so sad to see this happen to people who are visiting the Island, I’m a frequent visitor, I visit yearly and love Bermuda.
We love the people. We don’t do the tourist thing. Instead we have made friends and we roam the island. We love it. Our next trip is June 23rd to July 5th..nothing will ever scare us away from the island of Bermuda

  10. Kathy says:

Where is the security at Pompano? They should have a guard walking the property every night with a dog on a leash. Do they have security cameras for each apartment? This is outrageous!!!

  11. Hmm says:

It only takes one story like this to leak to overseas news media before the outlets are reporting how unsafe Bermuda is. Bahamas is a prime example of that only a few weeks ago. It’s time for a minimum security requirement of these established lodging premises to be put in place.
Yes CCTV cameras cost. But look how much money the entire island stands to lose when losers like this run lose and prey on guests in opportune rooms on the premises. This couple could have been put in several rooms besides one so vulnerable and obviously unprotected. Hind sight IS 20/20. Are we waiting for a murder/botched robbery attempt before we institute anything?
