BELCO Supports Earth Hour, Set For March 30

BELCO said they are pleased to once again sponsor and participate in the annual Earth Hour.

On Saturday, March 30th, beginning at 4 pm, there will be an Earth Hour Expo in Dockyard with a number of events as well as information on energy efficiency that can help save money and empower Bermuda residents to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

BELCO President, Dennis Pimentel, said: “We’re excited to once again sponsor and play an important role in supporting Greenrock’s annual Earth Hour event.

“The theme for this year’s Earth Hour is energy efficiency, an initiative we have embraced at BELCO as a way to help our customers reduce their monthly electricity bill. BELCO staff will be at the Expo to provide information and tips on energy efficient technologies and how residents can reduce their energy usage.”

There are several events taking place for Earth Hour events including the Expo from 4 pm to 7 pm, a 5k fun run starting from the Clock Tower Mall in Dockyard at 6 pm, a 5k ‘Walk and Glow’ around Dockyard during the Earth Hour Lights out from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm and a Stretch, Glow and Yoga Flow also from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

Mr. Pimentel said: “I encourage everyone in Bermuda to participate in some way for Earth Hour on Saturday, March 30th. Come up to Dockyard and enjoy the festivities and educational information, turn your lights off at home between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm and make a commitment to become more energy efficient in your daily activities. A special ferry service to and from the Earth Hour event will leave from Hamilton at 6.15pm. Subsequent ferries will run from Dockyard to Hamilton on the hour and from Hamilton to Dockyard on the half hour until the final ferry leaves Dockyard at 11.30pm. $5 for one way ferry pass and $10 for return pass. Standard ferry passes, tickets and tokens are only valid during the regular ferry schedule between 9am and 6pm.
