BSSF Primary School Track & Field Results

Hundreds of Bermuda’s top primary school athletes recently took to the track in the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s Primary School Track and Field Championships.

The Under 9 Division saw the tightest contest for Champion Girl as Milan Gibbons-Thomas from West Pembroke Primary and Kelise Wade from Northlands Primary shared honors as Champion Girl with 28 points apiece. Wade won the first race of the day in fine fashion in the 800m in a time of 3:03.9, five seconds ahead of her nearest rival.

Gibbons-Thomas then claimed Gold in the 100m in 14.57. Gibbons-Thomas and Wade then faced each other in the next two events, with Wade edging out Gibbons-Thomas in the 400m with a time of 1:14.70 before Gibbons-Thomas exacted revenge in winning the 200m in 31.28. Gibbons-Thomas capped off a great day in leading her West Pembroke Relay Team to victory in a time of 1:05.04.

The Under 9 Boys Champion was Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert from Warwick Academy who claimed four gold medals during the day. Lightbourne-Furbert cruised to victory in the 800m in 2:45.39 and the 400m in 1:10.93. He also enjoyed success in the pits after winning the Long Jump with a leap of 4.01 meters.

He finished the day winning the relay with his Warwick teammates in a time of 1:04.08. West End Primary’s Charles Fox proved to be the fastest sprinter in the age group after winning the 100m in 14.39 and the 200m in 29.86. His only silver medal came in the 400m, where he placed second to Lightbourne-Furbert a full four seconds behind in 1:14.99.

Yeasmin Cummings from Purvis Primary also produced the 100m, 200m and Long Jump Triple gold medal sweep in the Under 10 Girls Division. Cummings finished first in the 100m after a photo finish determined she crossed the line one hundredth of a second before Lashee Jones from Elliot Primary School. Cummings crossed the line in 14.27 with Jones finishing in 14.28. Cummings went on to win the 200m with a time of 29.86, while Jones finished first in the 400m in 1:13.76.

Kalila Daley won the 800m in 2:52.73 and the Cricket Ball Throw with a toss of 30.46 meters. The showdown was the set in the Long Jump where Daley and Cummings squared off to determine who would win Champion Girl. The two set themselves ahead of the field but ultimately it was Cummings who won with a best jump of 3.61 meters. Daley finished close behind in second place with a leap of 3.59m

Saezjhor Dent from Harrington Sound won the unusual 400m, 800m and High Jump Triple on his way to winning the Under 10 Boys title. Dent edged out Paget Primary’s Kiemi Chamberlain in the 400m after he crossed the line in 1:12.57. Dent then beat out Ton Hyland from Saltus in the 800m in a time of 2:46.37, leaping higher than all competitors in the High Jump with a best height of 1.28m.

Arima Turner led all Over 10 Girls with 30 points. She claimed gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 400m. She edged out Nevaeh Barclay from Northlands Primary in the 100m with a time of 13.67 before going on to win the 200m in 28.60m and the 400m in 1:09.77.

Xani Allen from Francis Patton won the Over 10 Boys title with a first place in the Long Jump and third place in the 100m and fourth in the 200m. Daylen Heaven from Paget Primary was a double winner in the 200m and 400m, edging out 100m winner Daylen Scott in the 200m in a time of 27.33 seconds. MSA student Scott crossed the line in 27.50 seconds.
