Photos & Video: The Great Penguin Charity Swim

March 3, 2019

[Updated with photos] The Elevating Hope charity held the ‘Great Bermuda Penguin Swim’ today [March 3] at John Smiths Bay, with the event serving as a fundraiser to assist in providing education for girls in Sierra Leone.

The event saw participants attain pledges as they ‘took the plunge’ with a goal to support Hope Academy for Girls, which is located in a rural area of the West African country.

Elevating Hope is a registered charity in Bermuda and their plan is to build a library and computer lab together with erecting a fence to protect the school property and the fledgling farm that was started on the grounds.

The charity stated that only “1 in 10 girls in Sierra Leone are able to get a high school education” and the “school will help students who would otherwise not receive an education.”

.

The charity members are: Mr. Abayomi Carmichael, Mrs. Ngadi Kamara, Ms. Tcherari Nu Kamara, Mrs. Aderonke Bademosi Wilson, Ms. Deidra-Lee Bean and Ms. Ayana Bean, and you can make a donation here.
