Chess: Flanagan Brothers Win In New York
7-year-old Odin Flanagan and 5-year-old Dylan Flanagan competed against 30 children from the top chess-playing schools in Brooklyn NY at the 1st Annual Grace Church School and Brooklyn Friends School Chess Tournament, making an excellent showing to win their division.
The top 3 players’ scores from each school were combined to get an overall team score. With Odin and Dylan, who attend Warwick Academy, only being a team of two they competed a player down. Despite this, they achieved 1st Place in the under 8 section with a combined score of 5.5 out of 8.
They will go on to represent Bermuda at the CARIFTA Games to be held in Curacao 18-23rd April, together with a team of 9 other youth players representing Bermuda.
