Minister DeSilva’s Trip To New York Cost $995

A trip in February 2019 by Minister of Tourism and Transport Zane DeSilva for the Bermuda Tourism Marketing Events in New York City cost $995.37, according to a recent listing on the Government’s travel webpage.

The trip duration was listed as from February 27, 2019 – February 28, 2019, and the web page listing said, “The Hon. Minister Zane DeSilva participated in the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s Marketing Blitz in New York City.

“More than 150 New York City-based meeting planners, travel agents, tastemakers, media types and influencers attended a Bermuda-inspired evening reception to encourage year-round travel to the island.

“The Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Aideen Ratteray Pryse. The events were hosted by the BTA and attended by the GMs and or Marketing Directors of Hamilton Princess, Fairmont Southampton, Rosedon, Elbow Beach and The Loren.”

    So, he flew up in the morning, walked into the city (no expenses listed for ground transport), presumably spent the afternoon doing something related to tourism (most likely just shaking hands & smiling), did not eat any dinner, stayed in a mid priced hotel, got up early to walk back to the airport, did not have any breakfast & arrived back in BDA in little more than 24 hours.

    Is that what we are supposed to believe?

    Where are the expense reports for all of the Premiers trips to Europe to undo being put on the black list that should have never happened?
