BFRS Respond To Fire Incident In Hamilton

[Updated] Emergency services responded to a fire incident this morning [May 19] located on Church Street outside of the Washington Mall building complex.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and police personnel attended the scene where bystanders reported seeing a small blaze near some industrial equipment that was extinguished. Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 8.45pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 8:45am Sunday, May 19th an industrial accident was reported in the City of Hamilton.

“It appears that a male worker was refuelling a crane in the Church Street, Washington Lane area when some of the fuel spilled and somehow ignited.

“Apparently the fire was extinguished just prior to the arrival of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

“The worker involved, said to be a 48 year old Warwick man, is understood to have sustained minor burns to his hands – but declined medical treatment at the scene.

“Temporary traffic diversions were in effect for just over an hour as a precaution and the Government Health and Safety Officer was notified.”
