Liquor Licensing Authority Appointments

May 15, 2019

Following the Liquor Licence Amendment Act 2019 coming into effect, the Minister of Legal Affairs has now made appointments to the Liquor Licensing Authority.

This is according to today’s Official Notices which said, “The Minister of Legal Affairs, as the Minister responsible for liquor licensing, makes the following appointments – Liquor Licensing Authority

  • Marc Daniels — Chairman
  • Kendaree Burgess — Deputy Chairman
  • Clyde Darrell
  • Kevin Smith
  • Anthony Santucci
  • Thomas Christopher Famous
  • Tanya Esdaille

Earlier this week, Attorney General Kathy Lynn noted that the Liquor Licence Amendment Act 2019 came into operation, and explained that one of the changes was to how the Liquor Licensing Authority would be comprised.

The Attorney General said,”The amendments to the law include: Creation of a single streamlined Liquor Licensing Authority comprised of 5 members as opposed to 10.

“This replaces the predominantly geographical focus of the previous 3 Licensing Authorities with three members for each of three districts, plus a predetermined Chair.

“The membership will now represent various professional backgrounds and sectors of the economy such as law, security, drug treatment, prevention or social work, hospitality, and retail.

“These varying backgrounds ensure all viewpoints and stakeholders are factored into their decisions to more effectively safeguard the interests of society.”

Madam Minister , I am sorry but you are wrong to remove the Senior Magistrate from the Chairmanship of the Authority .He is in the best position to make a judgment on who should hold a license .I can only see things getting worse .As of 2015 we had over 258 locations where alcohol could be purchase .Bermudians love to drink is just a song that highlights the wrack that many have made of their lives .Why add to this by making it easier to get more alcohol ? I sorry Minister , but again you are wrong .

    • Real Deal says:

hmm I see the logic. But in this new world you have to sell your soul to make money.

    • Real Deal says:

But than again alcohol is apart of are cultural similar to the Scottish people. It is even a part of our history.

I think we just need to manage it better.
maybe we need to set it up where is you have Liquor License at your place you must have a food vendor and Free Water.

make someone can also make a safe Drinking video showing how Alcohol works and safe drinking practices such as eating food and water before hand and not operating a veical until the effect removed

Remember under his tenure he announced that a large amount of businesses didn’t renew their LL, remind me what the consequences were for that. One big dealer never bothered to get one for years, claimed he forgot, nothing more was said publicly and he is no doubt still dealing. This judge also has just started a special DUI court to help offenders avoid road bans, as if drunks deserve leniency, and this from the LLC chair who issues licenses, as chief magistrate convicts DUI cases and as the coroner has first hand knowledge of every fatality and the true causes. The next problem is nearly everyone involved in “protecting the public”, partake in this liquor themselves.

So much for diversity in that group – One Bermuda!

    • Double S says:

This is just a snapshot of PLP’s ideal BDA…

    • truthertz says:

PLP’s mantra = diversity for thee, but not for me!

    • Real says:

Looks like the obaUBP but vice versa!

      • Double S says:

Don’t know where you have been but the UBP and OBA have been very more reflective of Bermuda’s demographics. Why would you try to rewrite history when your claim can easily be debunked?

But either way it is things like this which make e laugh at you guys when you have the nerve to whine about diversity. Practice what you demand and preach…for once.

  3. sandgrownan says:

Can we see the specific qualifications for each appointee, and some narrative as to why they are suitable for a position on this board?

And diversity….yuk yuk…it’s not in the PLP lexicon.

    • Swing Voter says:

Has your party found anymore surrogates to try the voters into thinking that you have diversity?

CV Jim Woolridge wrote in his book some famous words. “Those little white boys don’t mind you being in charge as long as they can tell you what to do! He spoke the truth since he was around you obaUBPeeee so much.

      • question says:

Here we go again with the PLP lying about everything.
That quote was not about politics at all. It was about two white members of the Tourist Board with whom Jim Woolridge had a quarrel. Yet you misrepresent it time and again to be something it was not. It was nothing whatsoever to do with the UBP.

You lot can’t help yourselves. You pile lies upon lies. It’s your only tactic.

      • Toodle-oo says:

Let’s not overlook ‘we had to deceive you’ and ‘by any means necessary ‘ too .

      • sandgrownan says:

And there, ladies and gentlemen, is why Bermuda is f*cked.

    • Just Bermudian says:

It’s amazing how you notice this but when former OBA National Security Minister Senator Jeff Baron’s sister posted Racist Post on her Facebook Page in June 2017 you wrote nothing.

      • Truthhertz says:

It’s amazing how you notice that one racist post but conveniently ignore the thousands of hateful and downright racist comments that spew from the mouths of PLP supporters on certain radio talk shows, certain Facebook pages, in the House, and on news sites. Haven’t seen you condemn one yet. See how that works?

  4. Swing Voter says:

surrogates to “TRY AND FOOL” the voters

  5. amstel light says:

looking at the makeup very UN balanced in more ways than one. Guess there really is only ONE bermuda that doesn’t include a minority

  6. LaV says:

“Guess there really is only ONE bermuda that doesn’t include a minority”

Bermuda excels at racism and homophobia…and pink sand.
