Opposition Leader’s Bermuda Day Message

May 24, 2019

Craig Cannonier Bermuda December 2018[Bermuda Day message from Opposition Leader Craig Cannonier]

I would like to offer my warmest greeting to the people of Bermuda as we celebrate Bermuda Day and the Bermuda Day Parade.

Bermuda is blessed by an abundance of good fortune from the beauty of our island to the amazing people who make our home what it is today.

We are a pioneering people who have successfully weathered many storms to always bounce back, better and stronger.

Underpinning that has been a sense of excellence – excellence in spirit, in endeavor and in performance. Bermuda really has, and continues to, punch way above its weight.

We only have to look at recent successes such as Bermuda qualifying for the Concacaf Gold Cup and the outstanding results at the recent Carifta Games to see how our people excel.

However, while they may get the headlines, there are countless others who strive, often unrecognized, to make a difference in our society, who excel in upholding what is best about Bermuda – its friendliness, its willingness to help others and its innate sense of humanity.

We are lucky to live in a place such as this and I would ask you all to pause for a second and think of those whose efforts make our lives better.

  1. Y3a right says:

    Where’s our 2000 jobs sir?

    • Wahoo says:

Plp scared all the employers away. Where is the arbitrade fools gold?

      • Lol says:

Really? So who are these companies and ppl who have been scared away when you had the entire business community come out and support the PLP in their recent efforts of us being removed off the black list which no one can really articulate accurately what were the consequences of being on the list. And you talk about Arbitrade. But when we mention where the money went for Jetgate or what about the close to 30 million that was slashed from the education budget under the OBA that went to the sail boat race with no provisions to invest it back in our school system, we get the tired old defelctions and plain old LIES. We didn’t spend money on or with Arbitrade. They haven’t been granted any licenses as of today. In fact Arbitrade bought a 6 million dollar property that wasn’t in use. That brought revenue to our economy whether you want to admit it or not. I can care less about a company we have not pumped money into at all. What about Binance and the other 30 companies who are currently setting up shop on the island and applying for the correct licenses to operate here? What about a Bermudian being hired as a CFO in Fintech? How many Bermudians were made A top level executive at any large company in Bermuda under the OBA? Hell the lost damn near 2000 jobs but the PLP are the problem…LOL ignorance is bliss for some…

    • Vote no more says:

      With arbitrade.

    • sandgrownan says:

Unfortunately, the combined efforts of the PLP, the BIU and The Peoples Campaign killed any chance of growth in the economy.

      • Lol says:

Ah WRONG the PLP or any of those groups you crow barred in the convo have absolutely nothing to do with the Oba’s failure to keep their platform promise of 2000 jobs. So nice lie and deflection but not gonna work

        • Wahoo says:

Where’s the gold? Where did that $800M go? How could anyone create jobs when a combined opposition say they do not want wealthy people coming here?

    • lav says:

      “Where’s our 2000 jobs sir?”

Why don’t you ask the sitting government? over two years in and….nothing.

Why are the plp and its followers so incompetent? Lack of education? Just plain stupidity? Anyone?

      • White Wash says:

Which obaUBPeeeeeee leader promised the 2000?

Jetgate, Milkman or Sleeping Jean LOLOLOLOLOL. I didn’t like the Milkman but he could run circles around the current leader of the OBA with one finger. Craig can stay and help you lose the next election.

        • Question says:

The PLP said Arbitrade would create jobs. That ain’t happenning. The PLP promised the Grand Hyatt would open. That didn’t even get built. The fact remains the OBA did create jobs; the PLP has absolutely no idea how to do it.

    • Question says:

Can you think of one single job created by PLP policies?
      No, neither can I.

  2. Jah says:

Still nada jobs under the current gomint as far as we all can see just taxes and more taxes

    • Lol says:

That’s a bold face LIE. The PLP had a 100 jobs initiative that got over 60 percent of the ppl who attended permanent employment. On top of that a Fintech firm hired a Bermudians as their CEO with more jobs to come. You all really tell these lies to yourselves to cover up your OBA govt failure to keep their promises.

      • Question says:

Holding a jobs fair is not creating jobs, moron,
There are no fintech jobs. It’s a Burt lie.
        Still waiting for Arbitrade? Moron,

      • Ringmaster says:

You’re on the wrong thread. The OBA did create jobs, not 2,000 I would agree, but jobs for Bermudians at the airport, Dockyard, and St George’s to list 3. How many has the PLP created? An initiative to create 100 jobs was a myth, the jobs were there all along just those Bermudians couldn’t be bothered to look. By the way, hiring hundreds of Government employees doesn’t count as creating jobs, that creates more debt for you to pay by higher taxes.

  3. Concerned Bermudian says:

PLP need to step down and OBA you need to start winning votes!!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Voters need to vote on issues & performance not emotions. Voters need to behave like mature adults not fans at a football game.

  4. YAWN…..dull, listless.
Give the country the TRUTH on JETGATE.
    Don’t you get it?????
Too absorbed in working with “____”!!!!

    • Question says:

Jetgate has about as much impact as titty milk gate.

  5. Miss Smith says:

PLP – ruining Bermuda one day at a time.

  6. Dready says:

Go away Cannon, OBA get new leader

  7. Triangle Drifter says:

Voters need to vote on issues & performance not emotions. Voters need to behave like mature adults not fans at a football game.

  8. La Verdad says:

This is a Bermuda Day Message? Lord help us!
