RA: No Decision Made For 5G In Bermuda

May 30, 2019

The Regulatory Authority [RA] has today stated that “no decision has been made regarding the deployment of the Fifth Generation [5G] technology in Bermuda.”

“This statement is in response to a press release issued today from Horizon Communication, indicating that if they are successful in obtaining an Integrated Communication Operating Licence [ICOL] from the RA, they will launch services using 4G and 5G technology in Bermuda,” the RA said.

Denton Williams, Chief Executive of the Regulatory Authority commented: “We are disappointed that Horizon Communication chose to publish their intent to deploy 5G based technologies, as the RA very recently advised them that there would be no consideration given to 5G at this time.

“Our position is that deploying 5G will result in a significant change of technology and its use. To make a comprehensive assessment of its viability for Bermuda will require the input of the public and our stakeholders, through our normal public consultation process. Until such time, 5G will not be deployed in Bermuda.”

Yup, no sense introducing cars to Bermuda when horse and buggies are perfectly adequate.

Indeed, gotta stay well behind the times.

  2. Really says:

    Mr Williams,

Will Bermuda be last yet again with the rest if the world ?

Why are you stifling technology, progress and competition in telecoms and electricity. It’s ridiculous. You come out suddenly when a telecommunications initiative is announced but you are silent on electricity issues like the rate review and delayed IRP. Hmmmmm…… enquiring minds want to know why the seemingly biased reaction ?

Over 6M a year we pay for the RA is a joke. Go and create more positions, hire more staff and run more useless consultations while making no meaning decisions. Else, get on with it and get your Commissioners to do the same.

I give credit to Minister Famous, at least he has taken it upon himself as an accountable public servant to post more meaningful information about electricity and telecommunication and ask the tough questions.

Bermuda needs action not flexing your muscle at every attempt to move Bermuda forward in ALIGNMENT with your RA Act.

The band is certainly playing on as the titanic sinks …….

Lol. Another position actually posted today by the RAB – Consumer Advocate.

How many positions is that since Mr Williams took over. 3? Are you creating an empire of new employees? Nothing has changed in scope and your work plan doesn’t have such detail.

Commissioners, what are you doing to question this ?

Stop the madness of creating more jobs and expense – do the job you are well paid to do !

  7. sandgrownan says:

What an asinine comment by the regulator. Is it really his positon to determine if it’s viable – and why would he consult the public and *stakeholders*? Do the *stakeholders* have a vested interest?

    Let the market decide.

Bermuda, going backwards on a daily basis.

  8. All will be revealed says:

How is it even possibly safe to bringing 5G technology to bermuda is not safe!!!! so many jurisdictions around the World have outlawed implementation of this technology due to How extreme the technology is.these hyper charged ions radiate cell structures and cause cancer!!!! Do the research!!
