Temporary Closures: #1 Car Park & Canal Road

May 8, 2019

The City of Hamilton is reminding the public that No. 1 Car Park will be temporarily closed starting tomorrow, May 9th through May 24th in order to facilitate the carrier ship off-loading, storage and transportation of BELCO engines and transformers. The public are reminded that short-term parking can always be found at City Hall as well as PLV Car Parks.

A spokesperson said, “Due to the weight of the incoming BELCO equipment, Canal Road has been temporarily closed while reinforcements are being made, from below, to the overpass at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road.

“This work will not affect the roadway above other than the closure of Canal Road at Palmetto Road. Detour signage has been placed on Palmetto Road and motorists are urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes into Hamilton from the east to avoid inconvenience.

“The Ministry of Public Works has issued a traffic notice regarding the closure and works to be carried out and all traffic controls will be under the direction of BELCO representatives. Any queries about the closure or work being carried out can contact Mr. Joe Vieira from BEST/Bermuda Forwarders at 294-6202 or Mr. Jesper Toft Levy from BWSC at 705-0632.

“The City apologizes for any inconvenience caused due to the closure of the Car Park, Canal Road and transport of the equipment.”
