Paget Collision: Seven People Hurt, One Arrested

[Updated] Multiple people were injured and taken to hospital last night [May 26] when two cars collided on South Road in Paget near the junction with Southcote Road.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:10pm Sunday, May 26th police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision on South Road in Paget near the junction with Southcote Road.

“It appears that two cars were being driven in opposite directions on South Road when they collided.

“Early information indicates that there were children passengers in one of the vehicles.

“The extent of the injuries to the occupants of both vehicles is unknown at this time, but an update on their medical condition is anticipated in due course.

“Traffic diversions are in effect while the scene is being processed.

“Police are appealing for any witnesses to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

Update 2.47pm: A police spokesperson said, “Seven people were hurt when two cars being driven in opposite directions collided on South Road in Paget near the junction with Southcote Road around 10:10pm Sunday [May 26th].

“The driver of the westbound car, said to be a 34 year old Southampton man, was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and later discharged.

“He was also arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

“At last check the driver of the eastbound car, said to be a 35 year old Smith’s parish man, was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital.

“The five passengers in the eastbound vehicle said to be 6, 9, 11, 14 and 16 years old – understood to be the 35 year old man’s children – were all treated at the hospital and later discharged.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses that have not already come forward are encouraged to call Constable Jah-Zico Douglas on the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
