Bermuda Football Team Win Five In A Row

June 9, 2019

The Bermuda football team heads into the Concacaf Gold Cup having won five consecutive games, with the Gombey Warriors having defeated Guyana, Sao Miguel, Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Sint Maarten over the past few months.

Earlier this week they defeated Guyana 1-0, which followed after they defeated a team from Sao Miguel, Azores by a score of 2-1 on May 25th, defeated Dominican Republic 3-1 on March 24th, claimed a 1-0 victory over El Salvador on November 16, 2018, and hammered Sint Maarten by a score of 12-0 on October 12, 2018.

Speaking on the team’s recent winning streak, Coach Kyle Lightbourne said, “It’s always good to win, and I think we won on merit in these games.

“We’re being able to keep clean sheets in most of them. Last game before this was a penalty, and then the game before that was a fluke sort of goal, so our defending has been good. We want to keep that up and be able to stay in the games until the end.

“We leave on Monday and then we’re back to work once we touch down. Everything’s building up for that first game,” he added.

Having now qualified, for the first time, for the Gold Cup, the island’s footballers will now compete against some of the best from the region, with the Gombey Warriors to take on Haiti on June 16th in Costa Rica, then Costa Rica on June 20th in Dallas, and then match up against Nicaragua on June 24th in New Jersey.

Bermuda’s team will include Nahki Wells, Dante Leverock, Jonte Smith, Reggie Lambe, Dale Eve, Oliver Jalen Harvey, Calon Minors, Roger Lee, Kacy Milan Butterfield, Jaylon Bather, Lejaun Simmons, Donte Brangman, Chikosi Basden, Zeiko Lewis, Willie Clemons, Jahquil Hill, Osagi Bascome, Cecoy Robinson, Justin Donawa, Wendell Tre Ming, Liam Evans, Marco Warren, and Quinaceo Hunt.
