June 22, 2019 | 0 Comments

The Bermuda International Film Festival [BIFF] is to screen a concert documentary featuring the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, at the height of her musical powers for a second time.

In 1972, Ms Franklin recorded the album Amazing Grace at Reverend James Cleveland’s New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles.

She was accompanied by the Southern California Community Choir in front of a lively audience/congregation.

The recording was filmed for a documentary, but it has never been released – until now!

Forty-seven years later, the film is a testimony to the greatness of Ms Franklin and a time machine window into a moment in American musical and social history.

The 87-minute film is rated ‘G’.

Amazing Grace will screen on Wednesday June 26 at 6.30pm at the Speciality Cinema. Advance tickets are on sale now at www.ptix.bm and at the cinema’s box office. If available, tickets will also be sold on the door.

The film is part of the festival’s monthly series featuring the best arthouse, foreign, documentary and independent films. Screenings are held on the first Wednesday of the month.
