‘Likely To Be Flown Overseas For Treatment’

Two people were injured in a two vehicle collision in the Harrington Sound Road area early this morning [June 9], with the police saying the “rider is believed to have sustained internal injuries and is likely to be flown overseas for further medical treatment.”

A police spokesperson said, “Around 3:30am today [June 9] police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported serious two vehicle collision in the Harrington Sound Road, Town Hill Road Smith’s parish area.

“Details are still emerging. However, it appears that a taxi and a motorcyclist with a pillion passenger were travelling in opposite directions along Harrington Sound Road when the collision occurred.

“The injured rider, said to be a 22-year-old Smith’s parish man and the injured pillion passenger, said to be a 21-year-old man, were transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

“The rider is believed to have sustained internal injuries and is likely to be flown overseas for further medical treatment, while the pillion passenger is understood to have sustained a leg injury.

“An update on their medical conditions is anticipated in due course. Apparently the taxi driver was not hurt.

“Traffic diversions were in effect for approximately four hours while the scene was processed.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses are asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.”
