Review: Friday Evening At Lido Complex

July 30, 2019

A Friday evening at the Lido Complex is always a good idea, especially when the weather is good, the cocktails are strong, and the music is on point.

I was invited to experience the new Friday evening vibe at the Sea Breeze Terrace last weekend and I happily said yes. For the past couple years, it’s been called The Big Chill but this year, Working Title is the featured band on most Friday nights.

The set up was pretty much the same on the terrace. I snagged a tall table overlooking the beach with my husband and ordered sangria and bruschetta while the band played in the background. The music was chilled out and relaxing, but still fun with a variety of genres.

Once the sun set, we headed inside to enjoy dinner at Café Lido. I always enjoy dinner at Lido, so I knew we were in for a treat. We opted to start with the pasta trio for an appetizer. It’s basically the three pastas of the day all on one plate.

Since they make pasta in house, I was super excited to sample the offerings. We were able to try orecchiette with buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes, risotto with smoked salmon tartare and cheese ravioli with tomato sauce. Every single bite was incredible, but the orecchiette was the winner for me – creamy and rich tomato flavour.

For the main, we opted for one of the specials – whole roasted snapper. Our server explained it would be filleted at the table. I’m terrified of choking on a fish bone, so I never eat whole fish. But, since it was going to be filleted for us, I figured why not.

The fish was roasted with white wine, garlic, capers and tomatoes and was served with roasted potatoes and broccolini. After it was filleted tableside, I dove in and thoroughly enjoyed. The fish was fresh, moist and full of flavour. The sides were perfect accompaniments, not taking away from the main star – the fish. I would absolutely order a whole fish like this again because I was so different from what I normally eat.

For dessert, we shared an apple strudel which was the perfect ending to a delicious meal – tart and not too sweet.

After dinner, we headed back out to Sea Breeze Terrance to listen to Working Title for a bit more. They did a great job engaging the crowd and even let once of the audience members take the mic and sing.

Every time I see Working Title, I’m impressed by their versatility and crowd engagement. They really do a great job in performing a wide variety of songs to keep the audience rocking.

So, if you’re looking for a great Friday night, head over the Lido Complex and I guarantee you will have a great time with delicious food and wonderful cocktails.
