WRC Will Be Hosting Gender Equality Discussion

July 6, 2019

The Women’s Resource Centre [WRC] is ‘Calling All Men’ to come out to an interactive learning discussion. A spokesperson said the event is “designed for men who want to understand more about this ‘gender equality’ – is it a male or female issue? What’s the point of #MeToo anyway, and are we there yet? Can my attitude really change my experiences with women both personally and professionally?

“Movements such as #MeToo and #TimesUp have caused a wave of social change in the world. These movements have encouraged women to let their voices be heard, companies have changed and implemented policies, and victims have shared their stories in solidarity.

“However, aside from the few men who have spoken against accusers, men haven’t spoken up at all. Could it be due to a lack of understanding and education around the topic?

“Lines have begun to blur and men are now unsure of what is appropriate and inappropriate. The truth is that men and women have two different experiences in the world; and issues that are relevant to women are not the same as men.

“The Women’s Resource Centre recognizes that great strides have been made thus far, but we still have a long way to go.”

“We want to be sure that men have ‘a seat at the table’ and learn how to exercise their power, to support women [including their wives, daughters, mothers and colleagues] and the idea that they should be safe from gender inequality and sexual harassment. It is important that men understand that they are partners in this”, states executive director, Elaine Butterfield.

The spokesperson said, “To be a part of the conversation and contribute to change, the workshop for men ‘From Women To Men’ will be held on Thursday, July 11th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at our new location at Sofia House, Church Street, Hamilton.

“The target audience is men but women may attend. The workshop will be facilitated by Toni Daniels, Female Advocate, a former Director at the WRC and owner of Down To Earth, Health Food.

“Registration is required by contacting wrc@wrcbermuda.com or by calling 295-3882.”

I think a discussion should be held. Can someone explain the 50 dollar charge.

The target audience should be both men and women. There is a world wide agenda to attack and bring down the male figure in the family let’s hope this is not a male bashing so called workshop.
