CFASB Launches Financial Literacy Series

August 26, 2019

Financial literacy should be a basic skill in life, so that people feel they can understand and manage their day to day finances.

That’s the message that will be delivered in a series of 4 public courses taking place next month in a special partnership between the CFA Society Bermuda [CFASB] and Bermuda College’s Division of Professional and Career Education [PACE]. The objective is to educate and empower members of the public on how to create healthy spending and saving habits.

Series coordinator Ms. Robin Masters, CFA noted that with the current economic climate, financial education is essential.

She said, “This financial literacy course is designed for all adults who are looking to learn more about personal finance and basic financial literacy. We are pleased and excited about this opportunity to work with Bermuda College to provide these basic courses. Registrants will learn how to create a budget that works for them and their household while also planning for the future and learning about debt management.”

PACE Director, Ms. Tawana Flood said it’s an affordable, no-brainer for those who really want to learn how to successfully navigate their finances.

“Financial literacy should be a fundamental component of our lifestyle,” she said. “It’s that important. Someone once said that money is a global language, yet so few of us have learned how to speak it. It’s true. We need to learn, early on, about the importance of managing our finances. As a community college, we are pleased to be partnering with CFA Society Bermuda, to offer this unique series.”

The courses run weekly, and will launch on September 25. Organisers are urging persons to register soon to secure a spot. There are no pre-requisites required to attend the sessions but students must register for all 4 courses. Topics include “Budgeting and Saving”; “Income, Expenses and Debt”; “Planning for Your Retirement”; and “Putting it all Together”. The entire series is being offered at a special price of $80.
