Teen Environmentalists Plan Climate Rally

August 23, 2019 | 2 Comments

Taking their cue from the movement started by teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg in Sweden, the Fridays For Future Bermuda group is holding a march from City Hall to the Cabinet Office to draw attention to climate change today [Aug 23].

Working in association with the Greenrock environmental group’s youth council, the high school students who make up Fridays For Future Bermuda are inviting local residents to join them in their rally to persuade “our government to declare a climate emergency which would include banning all single-use plastics and styrofoam and having a renewable energy target for Bermuda.”

Very good news to see our young people take control of their future as it relates climate change. It is hard to shift entrenched behaviour in Bermuda and the voices of our young people is so important to facilitating change.

Wishing them success in their efforts.
