BSX To Ring The Bell For Investor Literacy

September 26, 2019

The Bermuda Stock Exchange [BSX] announced that in support of the World Federation of Exchanges, of which it is a Board Member, it will once again be participating in the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ [IOSCO] World Investor Week to be held globally September 30th to October 5th, 2019.

BSX President & CEO Greg Wojciechowski noted, “The overriding purpose of World Investor Week is to encourage and support the importance of investor education.

“This year’s theme ‘Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy’, takes the global initiative one step further, by challenging investors to not only educate themselves on the risks and rewards of investing, but to actually apply that acquired knowledge to better understand investment terms and Public Company data, with a view to ultimately making more informed investment decisions.”

Mr. Wojciechowski went on to say, “World Investor Week dovetails perfectly with the Exchange’s ongoing ‘Own Your Share of Bermuda’ campaign and provides us with yet another opportunity to promote our Investor Education Guide, which is available as a free download from our website www.bsx.com.

“The Guide is designed to serve as an introduction for first-time investors and is must- read for anyone considering opening an investment account online or though one of our Trading Member firms.”

In keeping with this year’s theme, the BSX will mark the start of trading on Monday, September 30th with a ceremonial bell ringing.

Mr. Wojciechowski explains further, “More than 50 exchanges around the world will mark World Investor Week with either an opening or closing bell ceremony.

“For our part, the BSX has chosen to underscore the significance of this global initiative by inviting the City of Hamilton, Town Crier, Mr. Ed Christopher to proclaim the opening of trading at exactly 9:30am on Monday, September 30th outside our Victoria Street headquarters.

“Joining us to mark the occasion will be a select number of local dignitaries, among them, representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the BMA and CFA Society of Bermuda.”
