Restructuring At Butterfield, Jobs Being Moved

September 10, 2019

Due to a “restructuring” that will result in some Bermuda-based positions being moved to Canada, twelve Butterfield employees in Bermuda “were given advance notice that their positions will be moved in the coming months” and “Butterfield is working to find alternative roles within the Bank for impacted employees.”

A spokesperson said, “On 5 September, Butterfield announced a restructuring that will result in some Bermuda and Cayman-based positions migrating to our Support Services Centre in Halifax, Canada.

“Halifax provides us with an in-sourced, cost-effective location in which to consolidate teams that serve our businesses in multiple jurisdictions.

“12 employees in Bermuda and 10 employees in Cayman — in our Card Fraud and Middle Office areas and our Call Centres — were given advance notice that their positions will be moved in the coming months, at which point their Bermuda and Cayman-based roles will be redundant.

“In the interim, Butterfield is working to find alternative roles within the Bank for impacted employees.”

If you make them redundant, how can you find roles for them? lame statement

Its a shame because this bank used to have the motto “the bank that puts you first”. It prided itself on being Bermuda’s community bank.

Is Butterfield wholly owned or is there another USA or Global bank with lots of shares in the company pulling the strings? Has BDA outpriced itself, resulting in jobs being done overseas for 50% less. Not the fault of BDA employees, the cost of living in BDA is very high. People are stressed or sick. How do you fix this is the million $ Q

And I was lead to believe that these things only happened under the oba. Boy o boy was I fooled. Wake up Bermuda.

12 jobs is a lot for us as a community to absorb. I hope the bank will be able to place them internally in other needed roles within the bank or at a minimum help them to secure another job with another company.
