Teaching Team Join Perform To Learn Pre-School

Teachers have joined the team at Perform To Learn Pre-School, including Ellen-Kate Horton, Dwight Hart and Sophia Cannonier.

A spokesperson said, “Perform to Learn, Bermuda’s premier performing arts pre-school, announced today the introduction of their teaching team, which features a retired former Bermuda Government Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Ms. Ellen-Kate Horton, Mr. Dwight Hart former music teacher at Sandy’s Middle School and CedarBridge Academy, and Ms. Sophia Cannonier, whom is a certified teacher of the American Ballet Theater.

“Ellen-Kate Horton, a retired educator and Permanent Secretary, joins P2L as the person in charge of this learning institution. With over 50 years professional experience teaching at the highest levels whilst formulating policy, Ms. Horton is a local icon within the education and sports community and is committed to empowering our youth.

“Mr. Dwight Hart, who previously worked at Boston Children’s Hospital and Bermuda’s Oleander Cottage care facility for young boys, and was a music teacher at Sandy’s Middle School & CedarBridge Academy, has been pivotal in the success of this pre-school and the award winning secondary branch which is located in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“Sophia Cannonier, owner of Padma Bermuda’s first Pilates studio, is notably known as a daughter of the soil with international acclaim as a professional dancer having performed back up for the ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin.

“Roxanne Christopher, who was a previous Road Safety Officer and Economic Development Officer with BEDC and was instrumental in the development of this school within the EEZ, provides us with consultant support as required.

“Justyce Stovell holds a certificate in early childhood education and is a homeroom and culture teacher at P2L. Victoria Eldridge holds a degree in physical fitness with a minor in Spanish and, with her passion for art, joins the team excited to educate the students about wellness.

“Katrina Moran is currently completing her certificate in early childhood education and commenced working with P2L whilst a middle school student as a volunteer originally. Her commitment and dedication evolved holistically into selecting this rewarding field as her career of choice and she focuses her efforts on developing the fine motor skills of our students.

“Katelin Jordan-Whitter is our Spanish and theatre teacher and, coupled with her high energy, creativity, and overall passion and love for the students, will be script-writing and designing the scenes for the upcoming ninth annual School Showcase, which will take place July 2020.

“Perform to Learn is a play-based performing arts pre-school. With an exciting background that offers art, STEM, dance, Spanish and culture, music, theater, kinder prep, and an indoor play space where students rotate to every 35 minutes. P2L is a play-based curriculum concept that ensures our students are engaging, connecting, and mastering all concepts.

“P2L also offers individualized learning plans for each of our students to help with the mastery of the 58 Key Indicators for Kindergarten Readiness. The outcome we seek for all of the children – our students – that graduate from our program is that they leave us with both a foundation upon which they can thrive in their educational futures, and with lasting impressions and memories of the time they have spent in our care.
