Police Officer Attacked At Clearwater Beach

November 4, 2019

[Updated] The police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying individuals involved in a “fracas” at the Clearwater Beach car park this afternoon [Nov 4].

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying individuals involved in a fracas at the Clearwater Beach car park at around 4:30pm this afternoon.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have any information regarding that incident is urged to contact the main police line on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477.”

Update November 5, 7.56am: A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank members of the public, who provided assistance with the ongoing investigation into an unprovoked attack on an off duty police officer in the car park at Clearwater Beach at around 4:30 this afternoon.”

Stephen Corbishley, Commissioner of Police, in expressing his concern to this incident stated, “This was an unprovoked and violent attack on a police officer who identified himself as such to persons who were acting anti-socially and with potential danger to members of the public.

“The attack on a police officer will be pursued robustly by the BPS not least as he is representative of law and order in Bermuda and to send a clear message to persons who choose to be violent against anyone, whether it be a member of the public or a police officer, that they will be arrested and presented before the courts.

“Most notably the attack on the officer was in the presence of his family and the trauma they have suffered in seeing a loved one violently assaulted cannot be underestimated and makes this attack all the more serious and despicable.”

“Information provided by members of the public in relation to this unprovoked attack, has already led to a number of persons being taken into custody.

“The investigation remains ongoing and again, anyone with information is asked to contact the main police number, 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477.“

Update November 5, 8.11am: Minister of National Security Wayne Caines said, “I was deeply concerned to learn of the unprovoked attack on the off duty police Officer.

“I was also informed that the attack took place in front of the officer’s wife and his 8-year-old daughter. This attack is a despicable and evidences a a lack of humanity. The perpetrator/s will be held to account !

“I have spoken to the officer involved in the attack, he is in good spirits, but he is concerned about the emotional well-being of his wife and daughter.

“Our Ministry will make sure the officer and his family have the emotional support that they need during this most difficult time.”

Fools being themselves and are the first to say,”don’t disrespect me.”I bet some of them were fighting in front of their own kids.

  2. Fruckus says:

What kind of fracas? Clearwater is as nasty as Shelly Bay – maybe worse. 4:30 in the afternoon at a public space? A “fracas” – really? OJ were you there?

  3. cpm says:

    Well done plp
Thugs feel they can do what they want without being accountable
Did the police also record the incident at Shelley Hall where a law abiding citizen was gripped by the throat by a parent who’s child had 2 dozen eggs and was preparing to cause some damage?

  4. trufth says:

    “fracas” = “unprovoked violent attack”

    Seriously?

A “fracas” is your kids in the kitchen fighting over the cereal box.

Will the next murder be a “mishap”?

    Oh Bermuda.

  7. ROGER LAAMBERT says:

Very sorry to hear of the attack and I hope the Officer & his Family heal good, both mentally & physically. May the offenders be brought to justice.

If anyone were to intervene in unruly conduct these type bad actions may happen to a member of the public. SAD & BAD! It would be good if police were to quietly patrol through any public area where celebrations are happening these days. Stuff happens too fast, over the simplest of act.

  8. ROGER LAMBERT says:

I wish the Policeman & his family good healing, both mentally & physically.
SAD & BAD happening. Hope those who did it are brought to justice. If a policeman, even if off duty, is attacked like that, oooo the public who are trying to protect Bermuda also stand no chance with those type minded persons.

  9. Charlly X says:

Clearly not thought about! If the offenders didn’t have respect for the establishment and patrons .,… Did he think by identifying himself as an off duty officer would make a difference.?
He should have done what most people do took out his cellphone and made a video. Clearly he was out numbered ! Where was his common sense??
I do have a a lot of Sympathy due to the out come of the situation. No child should witness an vile attack on their parents . I’m sure Court appearances will come.
