Video: Commissioner On Officer Suspensions
[Updated] Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley is holding a press conference this afternoon [Dec 9], and we will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.
Update: The live broadcast has concluded and the 18-minute replay is below
Update 1.15pm: Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley addressed the recent issues, which includes a police officer being found guilty in court today, saying he wanted to reassure the public that while the behaviour of one person can be damaging, it should not reflect on the hard work and integrity of all other police officers.
The Commissioner also confirmed that at least four other officers are suspended; two officers were suspended from duty after recently being arrested in relation to what is alleged to be a very serious matter, and he also noted that two other officers were “suspended a couple of months ago” over what he termed a matter of “corrupt behaviour.”
Noting that it would be “very easy to draw some conclusions,” the Commissioner added that while there is a problem, it is not indicative of the majority of police officers.
The Police Service should have integrity, he added, saying that “as with any public service there are a few rotten apples” and they “will be found out and their time with the BPS will no longer continue.”
He noted there are hundreds of police officers, and stressed that most police officers are hard working, adding that while he is not proud of these issues, he wants to deal with it, be “open and honest” and get people to speak up.
Commissioner Corbishley THANK YOU!!!
better start digging lots of bad apples in that barrel t to b
Dear Commissioner
We value your transparent approach to these incidents to reassure the public that we are safe and that BPS house is in order
One bad apple…
Better look a bit closer within.
discretionary BS they just allow their friends off an offense is an offense
There has never been a time where there has been so many issues with police officers. The leadership should be called into questioning. Corbishley has made terrible choices and needs to leave Bermuda.
“Corbishley has made terrible choices and needs to leave Bermuda.”
Has he? Or has he inherited a Police Service that suffers from inherent problems? I suspect the latter and that he is cleaning house.
I would ask you, “Need Peace”, are you a serving police officer looking to distract us from the real problem?
