Video: Signing Of Document On Human Fraternity

Bishop Wes Spiewak and Imam Emir Saleem Talbot joined Governor John Rankin for the Bermuda signing of the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together,” with the document inviting “all persons who have faith in God and faith in human fraternity to unite and work together.”

The event marked the Bermuda signing of the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together”, which was first signed by  His Holiness Pope Francis and The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad Al-Tayyeb in Abu Dhabi.

The Bermuda signatories were: Governor of Bermuda John Rankin, The Most Reverend Wes Spiewak, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton, and Emir Saleem Talbot, Imam of the Bermuda Islamic Cultural Center at Harrington Sound.

According to the Vatican News, the ‘Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together’ was signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imama of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb and was a “milestone in relations between Christianity and Islam but also represents a message with a strong impact on the international scene.

“In the preface, after affirming that ‘Faith leads a believer to see in the other a brother or sister to be supported and loved,’ this text is spoken of as a text ‘that has been given honest and serious thought,’ which invites “all persons who have faith in God and faith in human fraternity to unite and work together.”

    I very much like the thought, but all one has to do is see the news to see how politicians here and abroad are trying to divide us into separate groups and banish those who are different somehow.

    Nice gesture. We should all be reminded that we are alike than we are different and all benefit when we all try had to make Bermuda and the world a better place and with equal rights for all.
