20-Year-Old Man Hospitalised After Collision

A 20-year-old man was transported to hospital via ambulance for treatment following a two vehicle collision in Smith’s parish.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 11:10am Tuesday, February 4th police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision at the junction of Middle Road and Verdmont Road in Smith’s parish.

“It appears that a truck was being driven east along Middle Road and a motorcyclist was traveling in the opposite direction along Middle Road when the collision occurred, as the truck driver turned on to Verdmont Road.

“The injured rider, said to be a 20-year-old Smith’s parish man, was conscious before being transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

“It is understood that he sustained a serious leg injury and at last check remained at the hospital in stable condition receiving medical care.

“The truck driver, said to be a 70-year-old Devonshire man, was not hurt.

“Apparently the motorcycle involved was damaged, but the truck was not.

“Traffic diversions were in effect for approximately three hours while the scene was processed.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses are now encouraged to call Constable Nidra McKenzie-Simons on 247-1506.”
