BHF Appoints Mathias Ahrens As Head Coach

The Bermuda Hockey Federation has appointed Mathias Ahrens as the new Head Coach and Development Officer.

A BHF spokesperson said, “We are excited to announce the appointment of Mathias Ahrens as the BHF’s new Head Coach and Development Officer. With his 20+ years of experience successfully leading senior and junior programs, Mathias’s appointment will not only continue to enhance our existing Field Hockey programs but also help develop new and exciting programs.

“Mathias comes to us from British Columbia where he was coaching at both the Regional and Provincial Level. Additionally Mathias has earned international experience in Scotland and India.

“Mathias gained his degree from the German Olympic Sport Federation at the Coaching Academy Cologne and from the Canadian National Coaching Certification Program [NCCP]. Mathias holds Chartered Professional Coach certification; coaching teams for the Youth Olympic Qualifiers as well as the Olympic Qualifiers.

“As part of the BHF overall strategic plan Mathias, will:

  • “Be part of local coach education and development, through planning and implementation
  • “Grow system development from Grassroots to High Performance
  • “Organize and implement National Program Management at both Senior and Junior level.

“With the help of Coach Ahrens, we will build on the BHF’s recent growth.”
