Video: ‘Taking Off’ Highlights Airport’s Landscape

February 20, 2020

Skyport has released the latest episode of ‘Taking Off’, a video series with host Mikaela Pearman that highlights the airport redevelopment project, with this episode highlighting the creation of the airport’s landscape.

Speaking in the episode, Mikaela Pearman said, “With the construction of Bermuda’s new passenger terminal building nearing completion, it’s now time to create a beautiful Bermudian landscape.

“Landscaping for the project began last year with the relocation of Mexican Palm Trees from the existing terminal.

“The project follows strong sustainability principles and was created to use locally sourced materials, reuse of local materials and with a focus on habitat and open space creation.

“All the plants are being grown and sourced locally for a more sustainable project and consist of native and endemic flora that don’t require widespread irrigation, which results in a large savings of water consumption and power.

“The plants that are creating the beautiful aesthetic include a variety of trees including the Bermuda Palmetto Palm, Princess Palms, Bay Grape, Royal Poinciana, Tamarind and Frangipani Trees, a variety of shrubs including Hibiscus, Oleander and more.

“It is a balance of plants that can thrive in an exposed location and plants that are beautiful and add to Bermuda’s beautiful image.”

    Bermuda – the new Canada

First the Acute Care Facility and the 30 year maintenance contract goes to Black and MacDonald by the PLP.

Next the Airport goes to Sky Port by the OBA

Soon BELCo will go to Algonquin by the PLP

What infrastructure will be next? Water? Fuel? Waste?Bridges and Roads? Maybe now we can swop the british overseas territory for a province.

  5. RastaCutty says:

Love the info but slow down please. Also why can we not have a dock for boats to pick up and drop off passengers? Seems silly as the dock is already setup for it.
