Commissioner Of Police Travel Costs & Benefits

March 2, 2020

In 2019, the Commissioner of Police went on eight trips at a cost of $9,002; the Commissioner does not receive remuneration for children’s school fees, does not receive a clothing allowance, receives an allowance of $1,800 per calendar month towards housing and has access to a fueled vehicle to undertake his duties.

These were some of the statements in response to a Parliamentary Question in the House of Assembly about the Commissioner’s travel costs and benefits.

As far as travel costs, the reply stated: “It is noted that the Commissioner travels in economy and many hotel costs are either provided by receiving partners, or booked at low rates; and on UK visits the Commissioner secures no cost accommodation through professional and / or personal contacts.”

In providing information on the travel costs, the reply also noted that one of the trips was in October 2019, when the Commissioner traveled to Miami “for meetings with FBI” which was “in relation to a sensitive police investigation.”
