Pow Wow 2020 Cancelled Due To Covid-19
The St. David’s Islanders and Native Community has cancelled its bi-annual Pow Wow, which was set for June 6 and June 7, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
A spokesperson said, “The St. David’s Islanders and Native Community has cancelled its bi-annual Pow Wow which was set for June 6 and June 7, as the Covid-19 health crisis continues to impact public gatherings.”
Committee Chairman Terlena Murphy said, “It is with our deepest regrets and heavy hearts that we, the Executive of the St. David’s Islanders and Native Community, have decided to cancel our bi-annual Pow Wow for this year.
“As you are aware, we all are enduring a pandemic which has halted our being able to gather as one.”

“Additionally, the movie screening of Mashpee Nine: The Beat Goes On, based on the 2016 non-fiction book by author, journalist, and activist Paula Peters, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, has also been cancelled.
“The screening was to take place on Wednesday, June 3. We hope we are able to conduct the movie screening in the future as part of The Committee’s education initiative.
“Each Pow Wow is an opportunity to celebrate life and to reconnect with our family and friends. It is our hope that we will all gather together in the circle for well needed medicine from all directions.”
The spokesperson said, “The cultural event has been held bi-annually since 2002 at the St. David’s County Cricket Club, which displays local customs of our community and invited native friends, and features Native American dancing, drumming, food, art, jewelry crafts and clothing.”
