May 25, 2020

On Sunday [May 24], Governor John Rankin joined religious leaders in planting a tree “to symbolise the harmony and tolerance between the different religious communities.”

In an online post, Government House said, “On Sunday 24 May Governor John Rankin was pleased to welcome to Government House a number of religious leaders on the island.

“Together they planted a tree to symbolise the harmony and tolerance between the different religious communities.

“Governor Rankin welcomed the way that Christians, Muslims and Jewish people live in a spirit of tolerance and mutual respect in Bermuda. He noted that the island could be an example for other parts of the world and that it was particularly important at this time of the COVID-19 outbreak to work together.

“Those attending were the Roman Catholic Bishop of Hamilton in Bermuda, Emir Saleem Talbot from the Muslim community, the Anglican Bishop of Bermuda, and Fiona and Jeffrey Elkinson from the Jewish community.”
