Govt Authorizes Second Charter Flight From US

May 5, 2020

The Government has authorized Travel Edge to operate a second charter flight from the United States, however it “requires 90 confirmed passengers in any combination of inbound and outbound travel.”

Speaking at last night’s [May 4] press briefing, Premier David Burt said, “The government has authorized Travel Edge to operate a second charter flight to bring Bermudians home from the United States.

“The flight will operate from Atlanta on May 15, if there is enough interest. Passengers on the flight will be required to quarantine at a government facility for 14-days at $100 per day on arrival in Bermuda.

“Travel Edge requires 90 confirmed passengers in any combination of inbound and outbound travel to make this work.

“If you are interested, you should contact Travel Edge at info@traveledge.bm. If you have previously registered your interest on the government website, we will ensure that you receive the information about this charter flight.“

  1. The thought of doing these charter flights for Bermudians to get back home is an excellent idea, but I have one issue with it, if these are Bermudians returning home ans the have their own individual homes to go to, why are they being made to pay $100.00 per day for 14 day’s, which is $1,400.00 for the entire mandatory quarantine period, what happens if the individual or individuals don’t have $1,400.00, I think both Government and Travel Edge should clarify this for those seeking to travel back to Bermuda.

If Government wants the quarantine, Government should also take the responsibility of those who have to be quarantine, people are returning to a new norm, limited employment and for some no employment. Then the reality is we are not out of the woods yet, and there’s much to be considered going forward before we need to throw an extra burden on those already burden beyond their control.Just a few facts that need serious consideration.

I am sorry that people are still stuck overseas but in reality people had time to get home before flights were cancelled but unfortunately people never thought it was going to get this bad. But we need to stop bringing flights in, and from Atlanta a hot spot. if the borders are supposed to be closed then keep them closed. Take some guidance from New Zealand, they didn’t hesitate closing their borders and even stopped domestic travel so please stop the flights.
