Photos & Video: Students Climate Change Rally

June 14, 2019

[Updated with photos] Students carrying posters gathered on the Cabinet Office grounds in Hamilton today [June 14] as they made their voices heard on the subject of climate change.

“What do we want, climate justice, when do we want it, now,” the students chanted, along with “you will die of old age, we will die of climate change.”

In advance of the rally, one of the student organisers said, “This is following in the footsteps of the Fridays for Future movement, a campaign where thousands of students all over the world are leaving school to rally for climate change.

The 40-minute live video replay is below:

“The aim is to pass on to the government our ideas and changes we would like to be made, in order to do our part in preventing the drastic consequences of global warming and pollution.

“Our goal suggestions for the government to establish include: banning all single-use plastics and Styrofoam, introducing a renewable energy target, and implementing concepts such as a carpool scheme to reduce petrol use and emissions, Meatless Mondays, and other ideas.”

Premier David Burt and Deputy Premier Minister of Home Affairs Walter Roban came out to greet the students, with the Premier thanking the students for coming, while Minister Roban took questions from the students about the matter.

We will update with a photo gallery later on, and in the meantime the live video replay is below.

  1. question says:

Perhaps they could set an example? Switch off the a/c in schools for the rest of the month, perhaps.

      then die of mold?

      • question says:

Well at this point they all think they are going to die of climate change, apparently.

Highly commend these students and those who support and listen to them as they join a global movement. It’s not thousands of students – it is literally millions. Pleased to see the acknowledgment from the government. Hope the students stay on top of the issues and push for more and bigger solutions!

Children being brainwashed by liberal teachers. Happening around the world and quite sad really. Hysterical nonsense that the world will end in 10 years. How many of those protesting enjoy days out in their parent’s gas guzzling boats, get driven to school in their parents G class cars, fly on airplanes to go on 2 and 3 vacations a year, etc, etc. Being a virtue signalling lemming is bad enough for a grown up but for children who will become leaders is frightening…cue to faux outrage to this comment in 3,2,1….
