It’s up to all of us to decide.

These controls would put an end to the “powers that be”, who control this illicit drug and gun trade.

So, you will never see them, except for some watered down version, many, many moons from now.

u have to MAN UP in order to get up every day and work your azz off to make sure your family has a roof over their head and food even though u know u aint gettin paid enough! but u know u aint just teachin your children to work but your also teachin your kids integrity, honor, morals, and REAL STRENGTH! Even if we built a 100 foot dyke around Bermuda, and locked up every single drug dealer…we’d still have a massive drug problem. Prohibitions do not work- see the Prohibition/Volstead Act of the 1920′s- which ironically Bermudians played a part in- we were “rum-runners”(imagine taking a boat loaded with cocaine to the USA).Our tourist industry flourished, in part, due to the Prohibition. The Prohibition also was crucial in the rise of La Costra Nostra, the American Mafia, and the overtly violent era of the 1920′s when the Mafia was actively involved in bootlegging (See: Al Capone- St.Valentine’s Day Massacre).Our gangs are following a similar patTern themselves, as the violence has provoked a massive response on behalf of the BPS(btw google it- BPS officer makes $15,000 a month due to overtime as a result of policing actions due to the increase in incidence of gun crime)same as it did with the Mafia hub cities PD’s and the FBI in the United States;I think that they(the gangs) will eventually come to the same conclusion as the Mafia- violence is bad for business, especially when you live in a place that’s only 21 square miles.
I read all of these comments, and for some, it’s easy to criticize the Big Bad Drug Dealer when you live in an ivory tower.I’ve come to realize there are two Bermuda’s – and the middle class overlaps in the center.But let me tell you, if you are raised poor in a materialistic place like Bermuda, it’s frustrating as hell. It’s maddening. You have no idea. And when you go and get a job that pays X, and the rent costs XXXXXX, the boss is making XXXXXXXXX, and selling drugs, no matter how bad it may seem to you fine and straightlaced folks, can potentially make XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, you can be your own boss, even though it certainly has got some serious strings attached, tell me now, what are you going to choose?
