EARLY HURRICANE SEASON FORECASTSAccuWeather.com March 18 – The 2009 Atlantic Hurricane season will produce 13 named storms including eight hurricanes two of which will be category 3 111 mph or above. coastline East Coast and Gulf of Mexico will be struck by four storms including three hurricanes — one of category 3 strength or stronger…..Colorado State University Dec 10 2008 – Fourteen named storms forecast for the 09 season with seven expected to become hurricanes and three to reach at least category 3 strength…..WSI Corp Dec 24 2008 – Thirteen named storms with seven expected to become hurricanes of which three will be category 3 or stronger…..Weather Research Center Dec 30 2008 – Seven named storms with four intensifying into hurricanes…..The 2008 Atlantic Hurricane season produced 16 named storms eight of which became hurricanes with five reaching category 3 strength.

If in doubt weather men usually say ‘fair to partly cloudy with a chance of isolated rain showers’. Covers any possible occurrence – just like the hurricane report above.

These predictions are ridiculous in the extreme and are only useful for insurance companies to encourage people to pay for insurance.

I recall watching a live report about a hurricane that was just south of Florida and these ‘experts’ reported it as follows:

“One of our computer models has it going north then west towards the Gulf, a second computer model has it going directly north thru Florida, and a third has it heading north and then east out into the Atlantic toward Bermuda”.

These people cannot predict the next 24 hours, why should anyone at all listen to them guessing the next several months? The whole excercise is a load of rubbish and assists absolutely nobody other than the insurance companies previously mentioned.

Well looks like we may get a bit but it looks like the majority of the storms will be staying to the South of us.
