The Natwest Island Games will be held in Bermuda from July 13th-19th, 2013. It will be the largest sporting event in Bermuda’s history. Approximately 2000 athletes from 23 other island nations competing in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cycling, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Sailing, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Triathlon and Volleyball.

The organizing committee has a website that has just gone live, but will continue to be modified over the next few months. Please see the link below and save it to your favorites.

And it gives other, older athletes a chance, too! Speaking as a three-time participant, the Games offer an opportunity for anyone with a passion for competition and a sport to compete at an international level. It’s good for the whole community, especially our youth, but don’t leave us ‘oldsters’ out of the fun! It’s a great way to stay active and involved in the sporting community. The only reason I’ve sat out the last two is because I’ve taken some time off to start a family- but as soon as I can, I’ll be back at it.
VERY proud of Team Bermuda!!!!! And, though my sport isn’t going to be in the next Games here, you can bet I’ll find some way to stay involved!

Well done to some awesome athletes – FABULOUS!! Worth noting that gymnastics small island games is in Jersey next week – July 4th onwards – shame it wasn’t with all the other events on the Isle of Wight – also I note that our swimmers were in CCCAN championships (Well done!!) – so we didn’t pick up any swimming medals either (I think) – GO BERMUDA GO!!!

Congratulations to all the members of our team competing in The Small Island Games. This event gives our young athletes an opportunity to compete against other Islands of roughly the same populations and provides them with an invaluable opportunity to mix with fellow competitors from 20 or more countries while also testing their skills. Our final tally of 18 medals is very commendable and I believe it places us in 7th position overall in the medal count – a great achievement. Bermuda will host this event in 2013 and we all need to get behind our athletes and our local organizers to show that Bermuda can host a first class Small Island Games and win even more medals on home soil.

NP LOL. That’s as gymnastics was not a officially a part this year, and we cleaned up there in 2009 so our tally was higher. Still excellent results this year of course…
