Never did I say no black Bermudian in the history of Bermuda.

And the fact that you label me getting chased out of establishments/areas, berated publicly and racially harassed to the point of having to move schools nothing but being “bullied” is quite interesting in and of itself.

Imagine if a bunch of white kids, nowadays, did such to a black person in Bermuda. I doubt very much you will label as simply being bullied by a bunch of white people.

My, myself, as a whiteboy have experienced far more verbal and physical racism in my life on this rock then any black person my age, or younger, will ever experience.

If you don’t believe me, then name (young black Bermudians) one time that you have been booted or chased out of certain establishments and/or areas simply because of the color of your skin. Sh*t I had even had to transfer public schools back in the day as I was harassed everyday by a bunch of 6-10 year olds because I was the only white boy in class.

Black Bermudian of yesterday, where taught to shout up and do as you are told, take what you get and don’t complain, you have no rights and are not entitled to any. today’s Black Bermudian are not settling for the same faith of there fore fathers, the vast majority are still doing whats needed to be done, to survive, but they are far more vocal, don’t mix up Bermuda’s worst Blacks with the majority of Black Bermudians.

Also note some of the folks that suffered through segregation and discrimination in Bermuda are still living. Bermuda was desegregated in the a mere 40-50 years ago and discrimination still runs ramped today, although not openly.

Sometimes I wonder which was worst the master/employer, that chased you from his door and told straight to you face I don’t hire Blacks, or the ones of today that hire you but pay less than whites, or the ones that simply just don’t hire you leaving you to wonder why. again not sure which is worst.

For a couple of generations now black people in Bermuda have been taught to hate whitey. They’ve been taught that hate is okay and it is justified because whitey is the enemy. The devil.

Today it’s not only the norm and commonplace for open hostility towards whites, it’s almost expected amongst the black peer group – and blacks offer every reason, except logic and sanity, to excuse their hateful behavior.

That backward mentality is at odds with the tourism sector.

After all: if I’ve been taught to hate whitey and eff whitey by any means necessary, then why in the world would I want to go wait or serve some white devil in a restaurant or hotel?!

Aren’t white people the problem?

Yet black people have run Bermuda for 13 years now. So who owes who?!

On the topic of this piece, judge the Conde Nast award as you wish. However, I would hope that the people of Bermuda judge the success of tourism in Bermuda by the amount of money and jobs that this sector generates for the economy, not the amount of magazine awards we receive.
