Agree with you 100%. Some people are so naive!!
Who is to say that this 72 yr old man didn’t bring multiple guns INTO Bermuda and sell them??? Maybe he was unable to sell the things he was caught with??? Why else would a missionary bring a revolver, ammo and a baton to Bermuda?? Hunting? Protection? SWAT Training?

Besides REVOLVER’s have been used in a few shootings here already.
A 72 yr old bringing weapons through Customs = the perfect plan.

Backwards for sure and we have to pick up the cost for the time spent locked up, plane fare, hotel for the officers taking him back. Take the weed and confine him to the ship.
As for the old guy, just take the dang gun and let him go home. What I want to know is how the H it got in here in the first place?

exactly! why are people looking for a double standard because if they would have jus fined him, people would be kicking up about that! its like the justice system can’t win. there should not be a different set of rules for visitors and locals. if he was in thailand he had been smuggling drugs, 72 year old missionary or not, his behind would be doin 40 years in hell on earth.

Hmmm…odd indeed. Curious minds want to know why a missionary would be packing heat…here we have a missionary, a Man of God presumably, trotting around with a gun, attempting to take it to Canada. Reminds me of the old WWII saying “Praise God and pass the ammunition!” I wonder if he was here on a mission to save the soul of some little gangster and while he was at it, felt it necessary to also save the little begger’s arse by taking his weapon out of the country because it had been used in a shooting.

OH! So its a difference because he’s a 72 year old with money in church & a traveller?? He had a gun and quit frankly its about time travellers dont get dismissed because theyre not locals. The laws the law! if he was a 21 yr old black male you would allllll be screaming lock him up. NOw you’re singing a different tune. Puh imagine how happy these boys would be if they could just get a fine but you’d all be complaining as most of you are because people are getting NOT GUILTY for tedious cases. The law doesnt have a preference, & its about time bda made something other than drugs an issue. You go to the states and break a law puh, you wont be paying no fine. you’d go thru alllll the processing and when ya sent back you’ll be on the stop list, COMPLAINING. I cant believe it

Why is the criminal justice system putting on such a big production for the world to see! Busting guys who are leaving the Island with a gun. Leaving. You should worry about how it got here in the first place!! The old guy is obviously no threat to the people of Bermuda, yet he is unceremonially locked up and then bailed to the tune of $100,000.00. Now he’s got to report to the police station three times a week and surrender his travel documents. This is a guy who was just leaving the Island! Who’s paying his room and board now? Why such a big hulabalu, the guy is 72 years old! Just doesn’t make any sense to me. Just confiscate the gun and send him on his way.

Another injustice is when Customs and the cops drag drug dogs on board cruise ships, entering unoccupied cabins if the dogs sniff out a little weed. Then the unsuspecting passenger gets busted for a couple of joints! He’s dragged before the courts, fined a $1000.00 bucks, is kicked off his ship, and deported by airplane. Often he will also need a US Visa. Not too cool. The travel blogs have already picked up on this unique Bermudian custom.

No wonder visitors are reluctant to vacation here!!

This is second time in the recent years that a visitor has been brought before courts for firearms possession discovered during an inspection while they were LEAVING Bermuda. The law is the law but c’mon guys use some discretion! Confiscate his firearm and send him on his way.
