Hmmmmmmm…..how can Ingham change his Pro-Business spots to Pro-labor so suddenly? Guys like him, Furbert, Hall (RIP), Bell, Simmons, correia, smith, the chamber of commerce guy and anyone else who jumped ship to declare their new-found interest in service to the labor government are the worst examples of ‘innit 4 me’ that it makes me gag. I have more respect for Laverne, at least she’s consistant.

Embrace the point. BELCO is like so many other so called local businesses. slow to innovate, stingy with re-investment and fixated by profits by any means necessary.These are the same people who say the planned increase to electricity bills is needed to fund infrastructure improvements. Ah hello ? In the real world you improve first then use improved service as the rationale to raise prices. Only in Bermuda. Anyway, well done Vince. Good to have you on the team….after a hiatus in the cushy wilderness these last 30 years.

It has to be human error – poor systems, no upgrades, no testing….either way..it’s human error.

No one knows what caused the initial fire, but it wasn’t human error. It could have been contained if fail-safe automated fire suppression systems were updated. If you want to place blame, forget Ingham, they had a very expensive ‘fire marshall’ on payroll at the time.

Bottom line is that BELCO infrastructure at the time was held together with wrigglys chewing gum while the board where spinning off dividends and patting themselves on the back (typical 40theives monopoly)….a catastrophe waiting to happen….like the pot holes running the length of front street, sooner or later you’re gonna hit one.

Fair point, but the fire was caused by procedural and engineering failure (as I recall).

Trust me, if I were rich and priviliged, I wouldn’t be here.

I’m no fan of aspiring politicians Sandy….but you’re not being fair. Ingham answers to a Board of Directors. If BELCO shareholders (rich priveledged bastids like yourself) are more interested in a dividend that capitol investment, how the hell is Ingham’s fault

I thought he ought to have been fired after the BELCO fire that plunged the island into darkness. He was chief engineer or similar (i forget the exact title) at the time and it happened on his watch.

He should stay retired…early or late^^
