Touche. I guess it would depend on a number of factors. Reckless driving, care of the tree, etc. All the same though, I'm surprised that the driver didn't seem to stop and wait for police or anything, which I would've thought would be the correct action regardless.

The truck was green, looked a bit like a garbage truck, only not as tall. No visible markings. Truck approached Reid Street from Cavendish Road. Driver had no care or concern for anyone - did not stop to even look. Truck made a huge bang when it hit the tree so there is no way the driver could not have known he hit something...idiot.

It is soo typical of some people today. While we may never know, what happened to cause this tree branch to break off and end up on the streets of The City of Hamilton, how did several bloggers come to the conclusion that it is a Works n Engineering problem. I guess its all that Rum n Coke twisting their brains.
LMAO
I'll stick to my kool-aid

Out of curiosity, if the tree was indeed damaged/destroyed (not clear if that was a large branch or the trunk) by a truck, does the party responsible (the driver or company in question) have to pay compensation for the destruction of the tree as property? And if so, do they just pay the cost of planting a new tree, or would that include the upkeep of the tree up until the time it is functionally equivalent to the felled tree?

Even further, I believe Greenrock or BEST put forward an estimate of the value of a tree in terms of it's ecosystem goods and services it provides (carbon sequestration, noise mitigation, air pollution mitigation, shade, etc.) - could these be factored in for determining the compensation?

I remember the CoH talking about a new tree planting initiative some months ago - any news on that? What kind of trees (invasives versus endemics/natives versus fruit bearing trees)? And where (does back-of-town get left out again)?

I think it is funny that the news has this prior to W&E getting the call to come out and clean it up!! Or should we all just go home and get our chainsaws ourselves to clear the road? Or is clean up left to the regiment???? Does it depend on the weather as to who cleans this up?

How about this? If I come up Reid St. in my heels and chop up this branch can I take it home for next winters firewood?
