James, I'm the Gas Operations Manager at Bermuda Gas and I'd be happy to tell you about the benefits of our new composite barbecue cylinders. The beauty of these new models is that you can clearly see how much gas you have left without having to deal with rust or flaking paint like the traditional steel cylinders. This means that they will be around for decades so they’re easier on the environment. They’re also lightweight – 50% lighter than their steel counterparts so moving them from place to place is easy.

I can see that you’re being proactive by keeping a spare cylinder standing by but I would like to explain the cost savings we’ve passed along to our customers. Prior to the introduction of the composite cylinder, we used to sell cylinders. Bermuda Gas is now renting its cylinders to make the cost of grilling more inexpensive than ever.

Refill pricing is based solely on the amount of propane so the 17 lb. composite cylinder can be exchanged for $33 at Bermuda Gas or RUBiS service stations while the steel refill with 20 lbs. of propane is $38.50. There is a one-time composite cylinder facility fee of $21 when you first rent the cylinder, for a total of $54 for a first-time rental. The cost of a new steel cylinder was $115 prior to the rental programme. We are pleased that cost is another ‘clear’ benefit of choosing a composite barbecue cylinder from Bermuda Gas.

I’d be happy to answer any other questions you may have at jboyles@bermudagas.bm.

Hi James- Most people love the advantages of the Clearview Cylinder not only for being able to see when the fuel level is getting low, but also because it is so light weight, corrosion free, safer/it will NOT explode. And since they last and last, it's a one time purchase so they don't end up in the landfills. The european design is nice too! My old steel tank was quite the eye sore!

HI Fred~ Ha! That would be interesting! Here in Florida living on the Gulf, we have found great success with the Saber Grill because it is toally stainless steel and performs well were the salt elements, corrosion, andrust are such a concern! Check them out ____ and if you see something you are interested in, we are now distributors for Saber Grills because they are a natural fit to go with our Clear View propane cylinder and would be happy to assist you.

I don't understand the benefit of these cylinders. OK so I can see I don't have much gas, I am still going to make sure I have a spare standing by. I am not going to take it back and exchange it until it is all gone. The cylinders cost more, hold less gas and are thus less economical.
Just looks like a way for Belco/Bermuda Gas whatever they call themselves these days to make more money.
