What would demonstrate that she is in control of things is taking on the risk and exercising the power to have the likes of Leroy Bean (whom she strongly publicly announced she wanted out one week but was praising his candidacy the next) and Rolfe Commissiong (second only in this racial divisiveness to Dr. Brown) out of the candidate line up.

She’ll get no praise from me for ousting Dickerson. That is what is expected in most modern political parties. You get no fanfare for doing what you are suppose to do; for taking on no risk.

If you want marijuana decriminalised you are going to have to come out with a credible statement of support and show that you’ve thought out your argument offering both pros and cons, and offering rebuttal of the cons.

That’s not the way to present an argument while expecting to gain any traction whatsoever with the current anti-marijuana establishment. You’re doing more harm than good to the cause by lowering the perception of what is expected from a marijuana advocate. You ensure that those of us who substitute a spliff for a glass of wine when we get home from a harsh day at work are judged to be as confused as your post is.

By the way possession is against the Law, have’nt you heard. Charge him like everyone else. I could not have a honeymoon because of 1 joint.(still can’t travel with my husband to USA since 1978) so charge him. There should be no acception. At 30 everyone knows better.

But what is completely wrong is to be charged for possession, then become a candidate and fail to come clean about it – we want politicians who are transparent, not ones who brush things under the carpet and hope nobody finds out.

I could have respected Mr Dickerson for coming clean from the start and giving his reasons (whether “I always look after my friends’ tobacco tins”, or “I smoke the occasional joint, so what”). I cannot respect him for carrying on the usual PLP tactics of trying to deceive us.

Good on him for resigning – hopefully a life lesson learnt regarding honesty in public office.

I don’t know if he told the powers that be at the PLP or not before they rolled out his candidacy but it’s this which concerns me.

If he didn’t tell the powers that be in the PLP, it was a big mistake on his part, perhaps a consequence of his youth.

If he did tell the powers that be in the PLP, and they chose to keep it quiet, it says a great deal about the PLP in their willingness to lie, in this case by omission, about one of their candidates and brings into question what else we have not been told.

I do hope Mr. Dickerson will put some hard thought about his friendship with someone who he has said let him carry illegal drugs without his knowledge. I hope he works hard so that something like this does not happen again and that his future endeavours in the political world go better.

I may not be a fan of the PLP, but I can’t fault a young Bermudian who is trying to do well in this world.
