LaVerne Furbert is Corriea Construction the company that said they charge o much per hour for work at the dockand was told by goverment to charge a lot more. At this time all we can pray for is that the companies hired to do any modifications are truly competent in doing what should have been done under the Progressive Labour Party Govt. for we’ve spent far too much already…Oh, by the way, please get all work guaranteed for x amount of years as well.Laverne Furber is thinks the plp does no worng even if it is wrong,she need to grow _ _

The big question here is who will get the Jobs ?
A contract Job like this has to start ASAP because the Cruise Ship season is just around the corner and
this could result in a race job – which may not have the workmanship quality were looking for.
Also how many overseas workers will get the Jobs and how many Bermudians -if any will be hired.

Pretty sure the PLP confirmed that the contract with Bazarian was cancelled in September of last year. Remember Furbert originally stated that at the time and then the next day he claimed he “misspoke?” Then in December it was confirmed that he actually lied and that the contract was actually cancelled as originally confirmed.

Am I missing something in the picture or is that MP Bascome sleeping!! We can all forgive him since he indicated he expected to be a Minister under OBA. He also supported Bezarian’s hotel in St. George which was cancelled by his new government.

Seems like he is getting a raw deal… from ‘Mayor in Charge’ at St. George to no meaningful position under OBA. Perhaps he is dreaming about what could have been (or what he wants to be).

Re per capita tax, the figure I heard for the new cruise ship was $7.8 million.

Re Ms Furbert’s comments – Sunrise Construction Ltd is extensivley experienced in the management of large scale works, Crisson Construction Ltd has a wealth of experience in marine work and is quite probably the best on the Island. Mr Correia, so I am led to believe, is working – as a “migrant” worker – on projects in the Caribbean.

Last time i checked it was $65 per head for any passenger to come ashore, so if you multiple that by the number of visitors by the number of calls, that should give you an idea how much revenue they collect at the ports

why on earth do people give credit to the OBA its the civil servants that do all this in the first place. But to have such an exact price is interesting. If you look at the previous statement from the previous government it gives the same ole spill of “Consultations were held with a number of key stakeholders”. Thats government jargon to make it appear like they have done the relevant research. These guys must all read from the same script. I would bet my booties if you asked the so called spokesman so who are the key stakeholders by the way and exactly how were they consulted and how was the consultation different from your past consultation to avoid such costly mistakes in the future, they would waffle like they don’t know their hind part from front .

I am a PLP supporter, and I am not happy about this contract. Why would anyone, PLP or any other government give that type of contract to a company that has had no experience in that area. Further, both companies are known for hiring “migrant” workers. But I’m not surprised that the OBA government would go along with it. What else could they do? Hire Dennis Correia?

I would like to know what Bermuda makes from the cruise ships coming here, in terms of port fees or the like. I don’t recall every hearing a figure. However, to determine whether this expenditure is warranted, I think that information would be very useful to know.
