Tricks hit the nail right on the head. If I was a lawyer and one of these sickos walked in my door. I would say there is the door I am booked until eternity. As for some of these cases its not always possible to link the accused to the victim. If that was the case there should be no shortage of witnesses to help the victim. The Judges need to get real and look at the victim as their own flesh and blood. I bet you will not see a bail prior to the case or any type of parole after the sentencing either. This is DISGUSTING to read about adults who should know better, taking advantage of minors who futures are now ruined. Touch my son or daughter.. u would never know what hit you

@BermyGooner …. i agree, but i dont think any of this sort of thing is “new” or just starting to happen in Bermuda. i just think more and more people are getting brave enough to come forward about it. The worst part about it is, there are MANY more kids who are made to believe the behaviour is OK…. and who’s abusers are STILL abusing them.

It’s good that more of these cases seem to be making the headlines because perhaps the taboo around the subject is being lifted somewhat and we are empowering our children to speak up.

Either that or we have WAY more sick individuals running around that we used to.

In any event, maybe Minister Fahy can pull some strings and have that Sex Offenders Registry the OBA promised up and running “effective immediately”. The longer it is delayed the more of these predators who can potentially slip through the safety net we must put in place for our children.

The simple fact that the sentances are usually a joke only serves to encourage this behavior, which I should add is widespread! Most cases go unreported.
