Now only if they could do away with contracts, also lower the connection service fees (Telephone company, cablevision) & actually deliver on the service that you’re paying for (instead of massive internet slow downs & drop outs).

8MB at TBI is $69 as well -with No contract, and they give you free wifi zone data. I have data on my phone so it is not a big deal for me but for someone that does not have data and works in Hamilton , St. Georges and Dockyard its a great free add on to give them wifi / data at least part of the time.

I am paying $70 for 4mbs at northrock and now I can get 8megs for the same price, well it’s a no brainer, unless northrock will match it, save me from changing my address if they do.

A word of warning, if you do not call these ISP’s and tell them you want the new lower rates they will continue to charges you the old rates. In particular those customers who have they card charged monthly.

I switched my home internet back in April to Digicel, and now I just called in and moved to the new plan. it was simple and the tech person helping me was actually very switched on…I’ll give credit where its due, had nothing but good experiences so far. their help line people are just as good as when I was with Time Warner in NYC

exactly my point, we have been financially raped for years by the telecoms. The lowering of rates is still not enough comparable to other juridictions.
There is only so much available demand on the island, so the telecoms are fighting over a limited amount of consumers.There are vey few “new” subscribers….just “switchers”.

No, but I’m just not someone who thinks that our prices should be aligned with US prices. It seems like most people here only want to compare us to the US. Cost of infrastructure is much higher. And the ROI is so much longer. If we had a larger population, prices would be lower because it wouldn’t take a company as long to get a return on that investment. I just looked at the Internet prices in Cayman and they are very similar to ours. So I’d like to know what island of our geographical and population size has much lower telecom prices.

While I’m certain that every consumer want lower prices, are we willing to accept lower wages to get them. If any company slashed its payroll in half, they could lower the prices on all their products/services.

I just read the terms and conditions. Only if you choose a plan and take the 3 months free promo are you held to a contract. I think that’s fair considering the company is making no revenue off of you for 3 months. But if you don’t take the promo, you can get the same prices which are cheaper than everyone else’s. Some prices are cheaper by far!

I really don’t care who did what first. Digicel lowered, then TBi, then Digicel, and then and then and then. What matters most is that the monopoly that Logicrock had is eroding. Consumers have choice and are benefitting.

Not exactly true. TBI lowered the rates months ago and have offered 8MB for $69.95 – with free wifi zone data access – and no contract. Digicel is now playing catch up but there is still the danger of a contract I believe. If you are not happy with the service, well to bad you are stuck.

Dont forget the cellular costs- Govt takes their piece up front however the prices are still way too high. Digicel work on that and your customer service. You continue to squeeze your vendors for breaks you make want to reciprocate!

Between Logic and Northrock they have been in the game forever and made millions I am sure, and now that they are merged they must have 80% or more of the internet business.

We need challengers like Digicel and Tbi to shake things up.

You do realize the high cost of doing business in Bermuda right? Logic, Northrock, and Digicel/Transact have already had costs associated with operating residential Internet. TBi could afford to come into the market and drastically reduce prices because they were never operating residential Internet. So while their introduction into the market has brought prices down, it wasn’t as if they were an incumbent. I’m sure the incumbents could have, but at what cost? Cutting of staff?

It would be interesting to see how much the costs of getting off island (undersea cable) has come down. Is the RA even looking at this or are they just focused on the service providers and local loop companies. Off island access is the main reason why prices are so high.

Regardless, prices coming down are a good thing. I’ll at least check it out to see how much I can save.

What a sad situation Bda’s inet subscribers are in. This announcement comes after logic and TBI reduced their rates the last few months. I always wondered how I-net companies can get away with charging such exorbitant rates for i-net; sad part is that the rates are still too high and all of them know it. The price fixing has simply come down a rung.
If companies can afford to give three months free for a new sign-up it goes to show how much money they make on that rate thereafter.
I-net is just another essential service nowadays that Bermudians pay way too much for.
