That is completely false. The Bermuda Government have absolute control of any marine reserve in the EEZ. That includes the ability to reverse it in the future.

To put in place a so-called blue halo will only assure that Bermuda makes one or two appearances on the National Geographic channel and will do nothing for future economic prospects for Bermuda’s EEZ.
There are some powerful interests surrounding the campaign to turn Bermuda’s EEZ into a sterile economic zone with no economic benefit for the future of Bermuda. Talk about creating a so-called tourist attraction on the order of the great barrier reefs of Australia is a myth. The great barrier reefs can be seen from space; the only thing that can be seen in the waters around Bermuda is a great expansion of ocean; hardly a tourist attraction on the order of the great barrier reefs of Australia. We should not be fooled. What can be caught in Bermuda’s EEZ and what could be possibly mined under that area’s sea bed; hold the prospect of creating A third economic leg for Bermuda and holds a far greater value than making appearances on the National Geographic channel.

This video is very disappointing in helping the public understand the importance of this issue. It only asks the obvious questions and makes very general comments. It makes little attempt to consider the hard details of the arguments for and against a “no take” marine park.

We should do nothing until this subject is properly researched and presented to the public in a way so that it can have a reasoned and educated opinion.

Kathy, you are missing some important information. It is protected, government issues fishing licenses and very few of them so it is managed. Giving PEW what they want would be giving it away and out of our control or more like taking it away from our children. Don’t be fouled by the PEW!
